This week sees the Cork launch of The Customer Is The Planet – a handbook for sustainable business written by a collaboration of global business sustainability leaders and LinkedIn top voices from diverse fields, including Compliance, Enterprise, Activism, Human Rights, Law, and Biodiversity.

The book is co-authored by Donal Daly, Ingrid De Doncker, and Orla Carolan – all of Future Planet.

Ingrid De Doncker discloses that she was thrilled to have been part of ‘this groundbreaking collaborative effort’. She goes on to say: “The book represents a unique convergence of knowledge from sixteen global sustainability experts, addressing the pressing need to improve our ESG awareness and providing a roadmap and a “can do” attitude to start or continue.”

“Together, we have crafted a comprehensive resource that aims to simplify the journey towards sustainable business practices for non-experts, aligned with the European Sustainability Reporting Directive structure.”

Why now?

Business leaders need to understand European Sustainability Reporting Standards. This first book of its kind is designed to be read by non-experts, as an invaluable tool on their educational journey.

“What makes me particularly proud is the book’s potential impact,” Ingrid acknowledges.

“By providing clear explanations and valuable insights on sustainability challenges and opportunities, we are empowering businesses to make better choices for themselves, for people, and for the planet.

The fact that all profits from the book will be donated to Our Children’s Trust further underscores our commitment to creating a positive impact beyond the pages of the book,” she reveals.

The Customer Is The Planet was spearheaded by Ingrid’s colleague, Donal Daly, CEO of Future Planet.

Donal is a renowned sustainability expert, powered by a passion for the planet and decades of tech experience. He is an accomplished entrepreneur who has founded five successful software companies. Together with Ingrid De Doncker, who is an International Sustainability Procurement and Supply Chain Management expert, and ESG Strategy and Compliance expert Orla Carolan, The Customer is The Planet is a must-read for anyone planning on integrating sustainability into their business model.

“Through this book, we are seeking to collaborate with businesses to make it easier to respond to the challenges of the climate crisis, the attendant social upheaval, and the corporate challenges – strategy, execution and compliance – that accompany the greatest business transformation challenge of our generation,” says Donal.

International contributors include: New York-based David Carlin who led the creation of UNEP FI’s risk programming, working with over 100 global financial institutions on topics of climate stress tests, risk modelling, TCFD and TNFD disclosure; Austria-based Harald Friedl who spearheaded the circular transition in his home country, Austria, when he served as Circular Economy Accelerator for the Austrian Government in 2022; and London-based Anna Triponel whose expertise on human rights and climate strategies has seen her collaborate in the development of the 2015 UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework.

The Customer Is the Planet is available in print and eBook.
