Frances Fitzgerald Ambassador for Ruhama
22nd September 2024
Ruhama is an Irish NGO that provides support services to women impacted by prostitution and victims of sex trafficking. The organisation is predominantly a frontline service and began its work in 1989, as an outreach service to women in street-based prostitution. Over the years the service has evolved and adapted to meet the needs of women. Some of these changes reflect the changing nature of the Irish sex trade which has become more globalised, predominantly indoors and controlled by organised crime.
Ruhama’s services are extensive in breadth and have a unique model of work which is not replicated by any other agency in Ireland.
Frances Fitzgerald was recently appointed the first-ever Ambassador for Ruhama a organisation which she has been a ‘long-time admirer of’.
Frances is a strong voice for the silenced and oppressed – an advocate for the rights of women and girls, she said: “During my time in Ireland and Brussels, I worked to create new legislation and policies that vindicate the rights of women and protect survivors of sexual exploitation.
Together, with the wonderful and passionate team at Ruhama, we will continue to work for a world where no girl or woman is exploited.”
Here at WMB we thank Frances for being a fantastic role model as she supports the work of Ruhama as part of her wide portfolio for positive change.
