8th May 2023
On-site services provider Sodexo Ireland will deliver facilities management and technical services in Dublin, Cork, Kerry and Westmeath as part of the €250 million (ex. VAT) Higher Education PPP project recently announced by Minister Simon Harris.
It is Sodexo’s largest PPP project in Ireland to date. Once construction is completed, Sodexo will be central to the delivery of a suite of facilities management and technical services on six new buildings at Technological University (TU) campuses in Tallaght, Blanchardstown, Tralee, Athlone, Cork and at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) in Dun Laoghaire.
Those services will include contract management, building and asset management, energy and utilities management, waste management, health and safety, cleaning, security and waste management.
Sodexo already delivers integrated facilities management (IFM) for the Central and East Quads at the TU Dublin campus in Grangegorman in addition to full IFM services at one primary level and nine second level PPP schools throughout the country.
Deirdre Saunders, divisional director, Schools and Universities, Sodexo Ireland, said “We are delighted to be part of a national, strategically important project that will elevate third level educational facilities.
For Sodexo, people are at the heart of everything we do, and our objective is to deliver first-class, responsive and flexible facilities management services to create a welcoming environment that reflects positively on each campus and improves the quality of life for students and faculty alike.”
Sodexo Ireland is part of the Enbarr Partnership contracted for the project. The other partners are Macquarie Capital Group Ltd, and JJ Rhatigan & Company. The Higher Education Authority, acting as the Sponsoring Agency, worked with the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science as Approving Authority. The National Development Finance Agency (NDFA), part of the National Treasury Management Agency, was responsible for the procurement of this PPP project on behalf of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. The NDFA will continue to be involved during subsequent phases of the project.
When all six buildings are completed, they will comprise circa 38,060 sqm of additional building space at the campuses and will cater for 5,147 additional student places. The project is being delivered under Project Ireland 2040 which recognises that investment in education is central to achieving a strong, future-proofed economy, balanced across the regions, and a just society in which all citizens are enabled to fulfil their potential.
