Matheson Named the Third Most Gender Diverse Partnership
5th July 2022
Matheson is delighted to be named the third most gender diverse partnership – and the highest ranked Irish law firm for gender diversity among its partners – in the recently published The Lawyer European 100, an in-depth report which reviews the continental European legal market, focusing on the 100 largest independent European law firms.
The firm’s female to male partner gender ratio is ranked in third position in The Lawyer’s “The 10 most and least gender diverse partnerships in the European 100”, with 43 female partners and 62 male partners. Matheson is also the highest ranked Irish law firm for partner gender diversity of the 100 European firms reviewed by The Lawyer. This is a testament to the firm’s continued work to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace where all colleagues and their contributions and perspectives are valued and respected.
The Lawyer European 100 report examines gender diversity in independent law firms across continental Europe annually.
Commenting on the recognition, Michael Jackson, Matheson’s Managing Partner said: “Matheson is honoured to have achieved this ranking, which is a welcome affirmation of our continuing values-based focus on and commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Building an environment where women are supported and encouraged to contribute and be involved in leadership and management at every level of our business is central to our strategy to ensure that equality and inclusivity are embedded in our culture.
We ensure that each of our promotions committees contain a representative whose primary focus is on diversity, and we focus on ensuring diversity in the membership of all internal committees and working groups as well as on client teams. Gender diversity has been a focus for us for some time. We are proud of the progress we have made, and we continue to strive to go much further.”
Tara Doyle, Chair, Matheson, commented: “This ranking recognises our long-standing commitment to embedding a culture that drives diversity and inclusion in the firm across all dimensions.
When it comes to gender diversity, we focus on measurable change and our targets encompass leadership and representation at different levels to ensure a more balanced representation across the firm.
We recognise the significance of creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels they can belong, and there is a sense of purpose and values.”
This recognition of Matheson’s commitment to gender diversity and inclusion builds on the firm’s recent success at the 2022 European Women in Business Law Awards, where Matheson was named as both “Ireland Firm of the Year” and “Career Development: National Firm of the Year”. Earlier this year, Matheson became the first organisation in Ireland to achieve re-accreditation of the Investors in Diversity Gold Standard from the Irish Centre for Diversity, in recognition of its continued work to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace.
