Celebrating International Women’s Day ’22

4th March 2022

The United Nations Observance of International Women’s Day

Tuesday March 8th3.00-4.30pm GMT, online.

The theme for the United Nations Observance of International Women’s Day 2022 (IWD 2022) is Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow.

The year 2022 is pivotal for achieving gender equality in the context of climate change, and environmental and disaster risk reduction, which are some of the greatest global challenges of the twenty-first century. Without gender equality today, a sustainable future, and an equal future, remains beyond our reach.

This year’s IWD Observance is in recognition and celebration of the women and girls who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation and response, and to honor their leadership and contribution towards a sustainable future.

Special guests include climate icon Dr. Jane Goodall, and two women that Time magazine has named among the 15 women who will save the world, Dr. Katharine Wilkinson and Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim.

Please note that you may have to sign up in advance for this online event.

European Commission Representation in Ireland

Tuesday 8th March – 12.30-13.30, Webinar

To celebrate International Women’s Day, a webinar co-organised with the European Commission Representation in Ireland will take place with the theme: ‘Women on Boards – Time to level up’. MEP Frances Fitzgerald, Aongus Hegarty (President, International Markets, Dell Technologies & Co-Chair of the Balance for Better Business Review Group), Margaret E. Ward (CEO, Clear Ink Ltd) and Barbara Nolan (Head of the European Commission Representation) will participate. The event will be moderated by Sarah Collins, from the Irish Independent.

Having both women and men represented at the top table is crucial to successful leadership. Today, there are still far too few women in senior positions including on boards. This event will discuss the importance of equality and inclusion in the boardroom and the need to push the agenda for greater gender balance in Ireland and at EU level – it’s time to level up!

During this live online event, participants can submit their questions via the chat function. You can engage on social media using #EU4Women & #IWD2022.
