Galway Food Tours Launch Self-Guided Food Tour App

14th June 2021

The award-winning Galway Food Tours, run by Sheena Dignam and Gosia Letowska, have added to their food guide offering with an innovative self-guided App.

On a trip to Galway located in the west of Ireland, people can now explore the city’s incredible produce, grocery stores, restaurants, cafes and bars – all on their own terms. Our entrepreneurial duo, Sheena and Gosia, worked with Taste4Success Skillnet and StoryTracks (developers of their new App) to bring together information on over 40 personal suppliers and details on their most loved parts of the city.

Sheena Dignam spent over 15 years in the food industry and her passion led her to launch Galway Food Tours.

“For me, what makes Galway so special is the local producers, and the best thing about the market is the diversity from cheese to sushi, oysters to curry stews, doughnuts to falafels. But especially it’s such a great atmosphere! The traders are such great craic and are hugely talented.”

Gosia lives in the Claddagh and is a keen cyclist. Through her tourism studies and extensive travels she developed a passion for local food producers and makers while based in Galway for the last 14 years and has immersed herself into the city’s amazing community.

Adapting to the Times

Funding provided by Taste 4 Success Skillnet towards training enabled Galway Food Tours to quickly adapt its business during a very difficult economic time, when the hospitality and food tour scene was completely devastated due to the pandemic.

Last year the food tours company launched a self-guided pocketbook with illustrations by local artist Gala Tomasso – adding technology into the mix was therefore a natural progression. “We initially developed the pocketbook and always had the view to developing a digital way in which people can enjoy Galway Food Tours. Working with Taste4Success Skillnet and StoryTracks has meant now this is a reality”, said Sheena.

“The App has everything you need to know about the Galway hospitality scene. Within the app there are video chats with all the amazing suppliers, producers and business owners we work with. This allows you get that a real sense of the place and of course that Galway buzz which is like no other,” Sheena concluded.

The self-guided Galway Food Tour gives experience, value and that insider knowledge that everyone needs to know when visiting a new place. Highlights include one of the best sourdough sandwiches in Galway from Tartare; enjoying a glass of wine at Ruibin on the docks; and on Saturdays heading to Galway Market and those world famous Boychik Doughnut! There are also discount vouchers included as an added bonus!

“This book has been created to highlight Galway and is one that can be treasured for years to come. The illustrations, the little inside notes and the overall sense of Galway within it means it will make its way into homes, rucksacks and tote bags across the country and world for years to come. That is the beauty of it, a true travel treasure,” said Gosia.
