IBEC Hosts National Workplace Wellbeing Day

20th April 2021

Ibec is hosting National Workplace Wellbeing Day for the 7th year running! It’s significance is particularly important in this COVID-19 era, as the Irish workforce has undergone a mass shift to working-from-home in many cases and social distancing across the board.

The impact of the pandemic has been difficult for many people, with loneliness a major concern amongst remote work-forces. IBEC urges employers to recognise their continued responsibility in looking after their people through these challenges. Employers still hold a responsibility for the wellbeing of their staff, even when working from home, and there are a number of steps they can take to improve employee wellbeing.

Workplace Wellbeing Day offers companies a unique opportunity to celebrate and showcase all of the activities that they are putting in place for their employees throughout the year.

Focus Areas for 2021

•Social wellbeing

•Mental wellbeing

•Physical wellbeing

Where fatigue around wellbeing-related activities has set it, April 30th also offers an anchor to rebalance and refocus on supports that will benefit employees’ social, mental and physical wellbeing. A plan that responds to the needs of employees is favourable to a one-size-fits-all approach to wellbeing. It’s important to communicate with your employees to establish what the current pain-points are for people (e.g. lack of social connection or bad habits formed around diet / exercise) and target activities towards supporting those areas. The benefits of a successful workplace wellbeing programme have been well documented and begin with improved employee health, which can aid in increased retention levels and higher levels of both engagement and productivity.

As the first country in Europe to put in place a day devoted to workplace wellbeing, Ireland is truly leading the way and April 30th aims to showcase this.  Workplace wellbeing benefits everyone. You can register your organisation’s participation in advance of Friday 30th April here>>

Workplace Wellbeing Day is on April 30th. #WorkWell21
