Tríona Byrne Joins Board of Irish Sailing Foundation

The Irish Sailing Foundation has announced the appointment of Tríona Byrne and Max Doyle to the Foundation’s Board.
Commenting on the appointments, Colm Barrington, Chairman of the Irish Sailing Foundation, said: “Triona’s financial and commercial experience along with her extensive contacts among the sailing community and Max’s experience both of founding a charitable institution and of managing elite athletes will benefit the work of the Irish Sailing Foundation enormously. We are delighted to have them on board.
“The Irish Sailing Team faces a funding gap of €1.2million as they aspire to achieve their ambitions at next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo. Athletes such as Annalise Murphy, silver medallist in Rio in 2016, and her team mates all rely on the Foundation to help them to be competitive internationally and to bring home medals for Ireland.”
Tríona qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG before founding her own accounting practice. She then worked with Gem Pack Foods Ltd as financial controller, after which she joined The Jelly Bean Factory, which was acquired by Swedish company Cloetta.
Tríona is immersed in Irish sailing. Her sister in law is the Sailing Olympian Aisling Bowman. Her husband Martin is a 4-time National Dragon Class sailor and Edinburgh Cup winner while her children Amy and Conor have represented Ireland in Sailing.
