Matheson CoderDojo Summer Camp
7th August 2018
Matheson has kicked off its first Matheson CoderDojo summer camp, designed for young innovators between the ages of 7 and 13 with a passion for and interest in coding. The camp will run until Friday (10th August) at Matheson HQ on Sir John Rogerson’s Quay in Dublin.
The camp will provide coding lessons during which the young participants will be given the opportunity to create apps, games and websites. The children will also receive interactive presentations and workshops by Daqri, ConsenSys and Junior Einstein. Matheson’s collaboration with CoderDojo is one of a number of initiatives borne out of ‘Smart@Matheson’, the firm’s dedicated annual technology and innovation programme designed to inspire innovative thinking and the creation of new efficiencies. To date, the firm has worked with CoderDojo on a number of initiatives and 2018 marks the first summer camp event under the partnership.
Speaking at the launch, Rebecca Ryan, Partner at Matheson said: “I am delighted to welcome participants to our Matheson Coderdojo summer camp. Our partnership with CoderDojo is a key element of the Smart@Matheson programme, enabling us to work with the innovators of tomorrow in a fun and positive environment.
“Emerging technologies such as AI and blockchain are disrupting our industry and those of our clients, and the Smart@Matheson programme is our commitment to evolution that meets these needs. While there will always be a need for human guidance in the legal industry, legal practitioners must to be digitally aware to understand the needs of their clients. The very best of luck to our summer camp participants in their endeavours and we look forward to seeing their ideas and innovations come to life over the course of the week.”
CoderDojo, established in Ireland in 2011 by James Whelton and Bill Liao, is a global network of coding clubs for young people (aged 7 to 17) where they learn how to code, develop programmes, build websites, games and apps, and explore technology.
