it@cork Tech Summit
10th April 2018
The best and brightest in the tech world will descend on Cork on May 3rd for the 7th instalment of Tech Summit, hosted by it@cork, and held at Cork City Hall.
Speaking at the launch, Gillian Bergin (Dell EMC), Co-Chair of Tech Summit and Director at it@cork, “The rate at which future tech is transforming our lives is extraordinary. We are fortunate to live in a world where amazing innovation and opportunity lie ahead. But with great change comes great responsibility. We must ensure these deep technologies are exploited to their full potential, while being mindful of their psychological impact on how we work and live. This year’s event promises to be truly revelatory in terms of emerging AI technologies, augmented human ability and digital health innovation. Be prepared to open your mind to endless possibility.”
Themes that will be explored at the event include:
Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Tech: AI is not new but the exponential rise in computer processing power is making the impossible possible. The Summit will explore how these technologies, along with crypto currencies, can reduce business costs, elevate success and finance business in new and exciting ways.
Futures Psychology: Technology now flows through homes, schools, cars and even the human body. Attendees at this year’s event will get a chance to meet a live cyborg to see first-hand how humans can be augmented by biohacking with the next generation of embedded sensors and non-medical implants.
Digital Health and Augmented Humans: Powerful computers and innovative minds are creating extraordinary things. This year’s speakers will discuss how digital and genomic technologies, 3D-Printed organs and facial-recognition therapies are converging to make healthcare and treatments more personalised and precise.
Caroline O’Driscoll, Chair it@cork spoke of the success the event has experienced to date, “The Tech Summit team continues to bring world class speakers to Cork. Speakers who give us a glimpse of the future, who push the envelope and who show how technology can and will transform our lives. The calibre of speakers lined-up is a testament to how well-regarded the event is, and to how the region is widely perceived as an established and growing tech hub. Technology is a powerful tool to enable and empower humankind. I continue to be impressed by what the it@cork team delivers year-on-year; from last year’s display of the most advanced bionics technology helping people’s mobility; to this year’s live on-stage implant of under-the-skin wearable technology to create Cork’s first official cyborg! I am excited to see this level of innovation on display in the region.”
