In light of Aviva's announcement on a new breakthrough predictive diagnostic test for breast cancer, WMB caught up with Vanessa Hartley, Customer Management & Marketing Director, Aviva Group plc. From lobbying for fairer premiums, to focusing on women, and comparing coffee prices to health insurance premiums, Vanessa tells all.

"Healthcare is a challenging environment in every country, not just Ireland" says Vanessa. Aviva are not looking to reinvent the public system, "that's the Government's job" but to "offer a real alternative to those who are seeking one" she enthuses.

Vanessa joined Aviva at the end of 2008, eight months after their takeover of Vivas Health. "I saw it as a fantastic opportunity to change the face of health insurance marketing in Ireland; To work within and shape a market suffering from mass inertia, as well as opportunity to leverage the strength of the Aviva's brand."

Two years on, the demand for a competent health insurance provider is still high and fulfilling this role is at the forefront of Vanessa's mind.
