REGINA MARTIN ALWAYS HAD A DREAM THAT ONE DAY SHE WOULD SET UP HER OWN BUSINESS.

Last year Regina took the plunge by turning her back on a very successful career to establish her own company ‘Vuyo’.“I was in South Africa in Cape Town with Fighting Blindness on a sponsored walk. On my travels I came across the designer Gelda Walshe and her brand ‘Get Wired’ and just thought WOW. All the products were hand crocheted with beads. The local government is helping establish various local entities to encourage African craft and to veer it away from the more traditional to something that will appeal and compete in the international markets”. The ‘Get Wired’ range is fashionable and funky. However, there is another reason why Regina was attracted to the brand. “Each piece I import is unique in that it is individually handmade by a group of local women who are enabled to work from their own homes in Crossroads, Cape Town. It is an empowerment scheme and helps preserve local crafting skills whilst also providing much needed employment”.
